With easy accessibility by rail, air and sea; Québec City offers you distinctive cuisine, European architecture, fascinating museums, unique shops, microbreweries, outdoor shows, art galleries, stunning landscapes and more.

Explore Summer & Winter trip ideas below!

Why go to China when you can walk a great wall right here! Québec is the only fortified city in North America north of Mexico, with close to 4.6 km of walls and imposing gates to explore.

Discover beautiful cityscapes and see how Québec's defenses developed under the French and English regimes. Cannons, loopholes, a star-shaped Citadel, Artillery Park, and fortresses are all part of this outstanding tour. Regional Quebec offers spectacular day tours by coach and rail such as the Le Massif de Charlevoix offering a unique experience combining local gastronomy and breathtaking scenery.

Explore Old Québec Old Québec, a UNESCO world Heritage treasure, is walkable and safe. Stroll the only walled city North of Mexico and its cobblestone streets. You'll love Château Frontenac (the world's most photographed hotel), the centuries-old architecture, and the historic sites. The friendly atmosphere and affable locals add to the European charm. You'll find horse-drawn carriages, street entertainers, singers, and artists, particularly at Old Québec's own open-air art gallery, Rue du Trésor. High atop Cape Diamond, stroll along the Dufferin Terrace overlooking the St. Lawrence River and the surrounding area. Or come watch the ice making its way down the river in winter. Or join an English only Québec City walking tour which will lead you and 14 other participants on a leisurely descending path through all the important sites of Old Québec.

Do Not Miss: Winter Magic and the Ice Hotel Generous helpings of snow attract skiers and outdoor buffs from all around the world to enjoy the area's skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and dogsledding trails—and stroll through the city's snow covered historic boroughs. Plus, you won't want to miss North America's one and only Ice Hotel, the world's biggest winter celebration—the Québec Winter Carnival, and the largest winter playground in America—Village Vacances Valcartier! Québec City's magical winter wonderland simply has to be seen to be believed!

Natural Wonders The St. Lawrence River— a massive presence cutting clean across the Québec area—cannot be overlooked. Gateway to America, it has been a part of the city’s economic landscape for over 400 years. Harbour and trade activities and the ever-growing number of cruise ships docking in the Vieux-Port de Québec testify to its importance. A public market, park, bike path and shows also bring the Vieux Port to life and help make this river-washed place truly idyllic. Montmorency Falls Park - this natural phenomenon is definitely not to be missed! At 83 m high (30 m higher than Niagara Falls) Montmorency Falls can be seen from all the way across the St. Lawrence River in Lévis! But the best views are from Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, where you can feel the full force—and spray—of the falls for yourself. Take a gondola ride or walk the trails to the very top of the falls. In winter the spray freezes at the foot of the falls to form a huge “sugar loaf,” another intriguing Québec City attraction.

Stunning Country Drives Quebec’s City and area is steep in history and the best way to explore is heading out to its beautiful countryside. Imagine how beautiful Québec's countryside must have been in the 19th century. In fact, it looked very much like irresistible Île d'Orléans with its historic farms, churches, and heritage homes. Visiting the many artisans and farm stalls lining the route is half the fun as you make your way from one quaint village to the next. In season, enjoy the island's famous strawberries and apples, as well as freshly baked bread, wines, ice ciders, blackcurrant liqueurs, and other local delicacies.

Shopping Fall under the spell of Québec City’s charming areas and picturesque neighbourhoods. Wherever your curiosity takes you, you’ll go from one find to the next as you explore boutiques, art galleries as well as specialty and gourmet food shops. Petit Champlain District - North America’s oldest shopping district will win you over with its colourful decorative art shops and sophisticated designer and artisanal boutiques. From its cobblestone pedestrian streets, you’ll admire the inviting windows of historic homes in a romantic environment. In the winter, Petit Champlain turns into a magical fairyland decked out in snow, with holiday decorations and twinkling lights. Rue Saint-Jean - You’ll fall in love with rue Saint-Jean’s European vibe! Outside the fortifications, you’ll find delightful original shops, artisanal boutiques, and specialty food shops. Inside the ramparts, you’ll discover clothing and souvenir shops galore. It’s the perfect place to enjoy yourself while you hunt for unique finds!

Dining Ranked among the 20 World's Best Food Cities by Condé Nast, Québec City is a Foodie’s Paradise! Québec City chefs combine their French-Canadian heritage with fine local products to create unforgettable meals. With the confluence of many European and international cultures – there is plenty of choices to wet every appetite. The best way to experience the best and local food of Quebec is to start with a Food Tour - during this walking tour, you will taste the typical and local specialties from a variety of shops such as: grocers, chocolate factory, microbrewery, restaurants and bakeries. What’s on the menu? Beer, wine, chocolate, cheeses, pastries, crepes, maple products and savory tidbits from renowned restaurants. The tour will stop at 7 different venues and you will sample around 12 products overall. Guaranteed departures Tuesday through Saturday.

Quebec hosts a large francophone (French-speaking) cultural festivals in North America, with a wide range of performing arts events are held on the streets and squares of Old Québec through all the different seasons of the year.

German Christmas Market: End of November - End of December Thanks to the city’s stunning old-world charm, the market immerses visitors in the magic that only European Christmas markets can offer. With its small village of wooden kiosks, succulent German treats, activities for the whole family and scintillating lights - get ready to be enchanted.

New Year's Eve in Québec City: December 31 Grande Allée in Québec City is THE place to be for celebrating the New Year! A huge free outdoor party will warm the crowd. Traditional music artists will put you in the mood for celebrating the New Year. DJ, traditional singers and fiddlers will share the stage!

Québec Winter Carnival: Late January – Mid February Come experience one of the world's largest winter festivals in beautiful Québec City. Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the Québec Winter Carnival to enjoy a host of activities for all ages, including snow bath, ice canoe race, night parades, snow slides, giant foosball, snow sculptures, shows, sleigh rides, and skating. The Carnival is a unique winter experience you won't want to miss!

Festival d’ete de Quebec: Early July Picture a modern, yet historic city taken over by a music festival and 1.5 million festivalgoers. Twelve indoor and outdoor stages on which a string of international superstars along with top new talent play for a full 11 days! All this right in the heart of Québec City.

Les Grands Feux Loto-Quebec: August Spectacular fireworks showcased on the St Lawrence River twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday’s from early to mid-August.

Québec City experiences four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and occasionally hot, with periods of hotter temperatures which compounded with the high humidity, create a high heat index that belie the average high of 22–25 °C (72–77 °F) and lows of 11–13 °C (52–55 °F).

Winters are often cold, windy and snowy with average high temperatures −5 to −8 °C (23 to 18 °F) and lows −13 to −18 °C (9 to 0 °F). Spring and Fall, although short, bring chilly to warm temperatures. Late heat waves as well as "Indian summers" are a common occurrence.
