Highlights: Haida Gwaii Queen Charlotte Island | Hot Springs Island | Native Culture | Wildlife | Up close and personal cruising of the Haida Gwaii Queen Charlotte Island region sailing in a 68ft ketch. Ancient Haida villages, impressive pole carvings, massive trees and then there is the wildlife... Sometimes called the "Galapagos of the North", Haida Gwaii is an incredibly abundant area.

  • Haida Gwaii is home to the Haida - one of the most culturally rich and developed groups of people to inhabit early North America.
  • A sailing voyage to Gwaii Haanas provides the rare opportunity to explore a pristine wilderness region. These islands are an isolated archipelago, difficult to reach and rarely visited.
  • Blue, Sperm, Minke, Sei, Gray, Fin, Humpback and Killer Whales (orca) all historically frequented these waters.
  • Search the coastline for the Queen Charlotte Islands black bear, the largest black bear in the world.

Day 1 Vancouver to Sandspit, Queen Charlotte Island This morning depart Vancouver Airport for your flight to Sandspit, upon arrival transfer (included) to your overnight accommodation, rest of the day at leisure. (Please note: On some departures the Haida Gwaii tour will be this afternoon with dinner, instead of the morning tour and lunch on day 2)

Day 2 Haida Gwaii Tour with traditional lunch, afternoon board vessel

The first stop is the newly renovated Haida Heritage Centre for a guided tour followed by a traditional Haida lunch, hosted by a local Haida family from Skidegate. Following lunch, we may have time for a short walk around Spirit Lake before catching the ferry back to Moresby Island to meet up with the boat and her crew at Moresby Camp. Upon boarding the ship cabins are assigned, and everyone will participate in an introductory & safety orientation with dinner to follow. Spend our first evening anchored nearby.

Days 3 – 7 Cruising Haida Gwaii Queen Charlotte Island Explore the eastern and southern shores of Moresby Island. Daily activities include wildlife watching, shore excursions to explore ancient Haida villages, old growth forests, beautiful creeks and shoreline, and intertidal zones. Search for humpback whales, porpoise, dolphins, sea lions, orca and the shoreline in hopes of spotting a few Gwaii Haanas black bears foraging for food.
