Rail Travel to Jasper The Rocky Mountaineer offers world renowned, luxurious train travels by daylight through the wild beauty of Canada’s West and is the best way to experience the majestic Canadian Rockies, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the rugged landscape of Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Marmot Basin sits on the highest base elevation of all Canadian ski areas. Marmot Basin is the ski resort in Jasper, and is as unpretentious as it is pristine. It is known for its spectacular views, variety of runs, and laid back atmosphere. Dining Jasper offers you a variety of dining options, whether you are looking for casual or fine dining local or international cuisine, Jasper has the choices you are looking for. For a unique treat; try out afternoon tea at the historic Maligne Lake Chalet. Afternoon Tea was a tradition in the Rocky Mountains in the days when visitors arrived by horseback at backcountry camps after a long day in the saddle. Step back in time at historic Maligne Lake Chalet this summer after your long day of touring and join in the ritual of Afternoon Tea. This Rocky Mountain Tea experience is charming and down to earth; it's rustic ambience set by massive Canadian-sized scones and overly sweet jams. The Log Chalet with it's very famous view captures the quintessential charm of an era that valued luxury in the midst of wilderness. Relax and drink it all in. Afternoon Tea at the Maligne Lake Chalet is offered July 1st through Labour Day between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Jasper in January Festival: January Jasper comes to life in January with events to celebrate winter in the mountains. Great signature events like the Family Street Party, Walk of Lights, fireworks and the Mountain Park Lodges Chili Cook-off (to name just a few) are what you can look forward to over the two full weeks of exciting events.

Taste of Jasper: April Kicking off with Taste of the Town, Taste of Jasper is the chance to experience the best of Jasper’s local food and dining. Taste of the Town is a community event dedicated to the boundless flavours Jasper is celebrated for, while Taste of the Town is a mini-dine around you can’t afford to miss. Taste of the Town proudly raises funds for the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives and their ‘Raise the Roof’ program.

National Aboriginal Day: June Jasper National Park is recognized as a significant cultural crossroads for a diversity of Aboriginal groups. Drink in the sights, sounds and colours of local and regional Aboriginal culture at its finest with samples of bannock and bush tea, dancers in colourful regalia and the beat of the drum. Look, listen and learn as the indigenous peoples of this land tell and celebrate their own stories in their own way – naturally.

Canada Day: 1 July Join us in celebrating Canada’s birthday. Festivities kick off with a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. and continue through the day and night with a flag raising ceremony, giant birthday cake, parade, barbeque, beer gardens and stage entertainment capped off by a storm of fireworks against the backdrop of the mountain peaks that surround the town.

Rodeo: August Jasper’s Heritage Rodeo combines the best of western heritage and culture with an outstanding welcoming spirit. Out of the 60 professional rodeos on the Western Canadian schedule, Jasper remains at the forefront of rodeo promotion and education.

Jasper Dark Sky Festival: October In 2011, Jasper National Park was awarded the designation for the world’s largest Dark Sky Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. At night, Jasper is a stunning wilderness of stars, and by day it’s a universe of mountain fun and adventure. Take it all in during the Jasper Dark Sky Festival.

Jasper experiences a subarctic climate that borders on a humid continental climate creating winter temperature ranges from a low of −13.3 °C (8.1 °F) to a high of −0.2 °C (31.6 °F).

Summer temperatures in the warmest months are pleasant with an average high of 21.6 °C (70.9 °F) and an average low of 7.3 °C (45.1 °F).
