Located in central Newfoundland & Labrador with a population of just under 3,500 people, Lewisporte was an important base of operations for the Canadian Forces during the war years. Today, it is a busy port that serves the many communities along Notre Dame Bay.
Lewisporte has come to known for its generosity and hospitality after the September 11 terror attacks in 2001 on US soil. The town hosted several hundred air passengers whose planes were forced to land at Gander, just 30 minutes east of the town.
