Talkeetna located at the confluence of the Susitna, Chulitna and Talkeetna Rivers was established in 1919. Flightseeing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and fishing are popular activities in the area, which is about 3 hours from Anchorage by train, or 2.5 by car. The core downtown area is classified as a National historic site, with buildings dating from the early 1900s including Nagley's General Store, Fairview Inn and the Talkeetna Roadhouse.
Talkeetna offers great salmon fishing and being close to Denali makes it a popular destination for tourists each summer. The many made in Alaska products from local artists, musicians and craftspeople that are sold in the local shops add to the authentic feel of the town.
