Scenic Circle Through Western Jewels

10 Days / 9 Nights
Vancouver to Vancouver
From USD$5,476 per person
View Map

Looping through Whistler, Quesnel, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff and Kamloops to come back to Vancouver, the scenic circle through western jewels collects some of Western Canada’s most precious gems. Ride the rails aboard the iconic Rocky Mountaineer, glide to the top of Banff on a gondola and walk on an enormous glacier in between. Pass through the spiral tunnels of Yoho National Park, marvel at the natural phenomenon of the Rainbow Canyon and watch as water torrents through a tiny gap at Hell’s Gate.

If you already have goosebumps just thinking about the above, rest assured that this is just the beginning. Western Canada is packed with rugged, natural beauty and some of the most spectacular sights are best seen from the rails. Traveling in the comfort of a luxury train with scenic coach tours and stops in the mountain towns, this circle tour highlights our country’s most prized, hand selected by us for the journey of a lifetime.

Departure date

The below itinerary is only a suggestion, we offer tailor-made personal service and solutions to help you plan your perfect vacation.

Day 1 Vancouver to Whistler (Rail) Today Rocky Mountaineer takes you on a breathtaking rail journey through the stunning scenery of the Sea to Sky Corridor. Highlights of the trip include spectacular views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls, Mount Garibaldi and the impressive Cheakamus Canyon. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. (Breakfast included today)

Day 2 Whistler to Quesnel (Rail) Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer to the charming rural town of Quesnel, gateway to the North Cariboo. Enjoy breathtaking and varied scenery, from the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley, through the desert-like conditions of the Fraser Canyon, to rolling hills and vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau. (breakfast & lunch is included today)

Day 3 Quesnel to Jasper (Rail) This morning, re-board the Rocky Mountaineer Train for your continuing journey to Jasper. Your route today follows the famous Fraser River. Enjoy breakfast and lunch onboard. Keep your eyes open for grizzly, moose, beaver and osprey! You will pass the historic settlements of McBride and Tête Jaune Cache on your way to the Yellowhead Pass, then pass Mount Robson, (3,954 metres), the Rockies’ highest peak. Crossing into the province of Alberta, you will arrive by late afternoon in the peaceful alpine town of Jasper. (breakfast & lunch is included today)

Day 4 Jasper - Evening wildlife tour Today is free to explore Jasper before departing this evening to experience the environs of Jasper, and for some amazing close-up photo opportunities of wildlife.

Day 5 Jasper to Lake Louise (Coach) Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of nearly 125 sq mi (325 sq km) and reaches a depth of 1050 ft (320 m). Time allows for an Ice Explorer ride (included) on the Athabasca Glacier, then a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk (included) to experience a glass-floored observation platform 918 ft (280 m) over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. After, continue along the Icefield Parkway where stops will be made at Bow Lake, the Crowfoot Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy. Please note: mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid-June. (picnic lunch included today)

Day 6 Lake Louise Exploring Explore this charming mountain village close to many terrific scenic highlights. Visit Lake Louise, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. You will marvel at the magnificent shoreline with dense forest and glacial peaks rising abruptly from the water’s edge.

Day 7 Lake Louise to Banff (Coach) Depart Lake Louise mid-morning for a short drive via the scenic Bow Valley to Banff, arriving midday.

Day 8 Morning sightseeing tour of Banff with Gondola This morning, tour the town of Banff and its environs. Among the highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka and Bankhead: an abandoned mining town and the relic of Banff’s industrial past. At the end of the tour you will be taken to the Banff Gondola for a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Return to downtown Banff at your leisure. (transfer not included)

Day 9 Banff to Kamloops (Rail) All aboard Rocky Mountaineer for the scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. As the train crosses over the continental divide you pass through the spiral tunnels in Yoho National Park, a remarkable engineering achievement. Continue on through the Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park with endless views of snow capped mountains and stunning glaciers. Pass by Craigellachie, where the last spike was driven completing the Canadian Pacific Railway Trans Canada link in 1885. (breakfast & lunch is included today)

Day 10 Kamloops to Vancouver (Rail) Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer Train and follow the Thompson River through Ashcroft - one of Canada’s driest towns (with an average rainfall of just 18 centimetres). Pass through Rainbow Canyon with its cliffs striped with pinks, greens and greys creating a stunning effect. Continue on to the Fraser Canyon where at Hell’s Gate you will observe a water torrent past the canyon walls at its narrowest point. The last leg of the journey takes you through the lush farming region of the Fraser Valley to arrive in the Pacific port of Vancouver late afternoon. (breakfast & lunch is included today)
