Day 1 Vancouver to Jasper (Rail)
This afternoon, check in at Pacific Central Station and board VIA Rail's 'Canadian' for the famous train journey to the majestic Canadian Rockies. Step back in time to the days of classic rail travel, riding in the original stainless steel 'streamliner' railcars made famous by the 'Canadian' in the 1950s. Each has been restored with air conditioning, a cafe bar, lounge car and access to the dome car.
Exclusive to Sleeper Touring Class: By day, sit back in comfortable seating and enjoy the exclusive comfort of your own accommodation. Come evening, attendants will transform your quarters into cozy bunks or a bedroom. Don't forget to visit the Dome Car - the true essence of traveling by train is all in the panoramic views.
Day 2 Canadian Rockies by daylight aboard VIA Rail; arrive Jasper late morning (Rail)
Rise to the snowy peaks of the Canadian Rockies today as you arrive in Jasper and transfer to your hotel. The day is free to explore this unique alpine community.
Day 3 Choice of Adventure & Discover Jasper and its Wildlife Tour
Today you can choose one of the following five adventures to highlight your time in Jasper. We have included your choice of:
A. "Ultimate Jasper" Interpretive Nature Walk
Experience the majestic scenery of Jasper National Park on foot. This guided nature walk will feature a spectacular array of rolling hills, jagged peaks, forests, meadows, marshes, streams and stunning glacial lakes. Your licensed interpreter will lead this leisurely walk as you explore the abundant flora and fauna along these routes that often offer incredible opportunities to spot wildlife.
B. Maligne Valley & Guided Walk
The Maligne Valley "Wonders of Jasper" is an amazing interpretive drive up the Maligne Valley. This trip will include a stop at Maligne Canyon for a gentle guided walk to the first two bridges above the gorge, a short stop at the "disappearing" Medicine Lake, and finally Maligne Lake. At this picturesque gem of the Canadian Rockies you will enjoy a guided hike along the Mary Schaffer Loop (3.2km / 2mi - weather and trail conditions permitting).
C. Gentle Raft / Float Trip
Enjoy a gentle rafting tour on the Athabasca River for a unique perspective of Jasper National Park. The 16 kilometer, 2.5-hour round trip passes trough many small sets of rapids and calm stretches, which allows your National Par Licensed guide to point out the natural and human history of Jasper. Specially designed rafts offer a safe, comfortable ride that any first time rafter will enjoy. This trip is for everyone from toddlers to seniors.
D. Canoe Adventure "Sunburst"
The "Sunburst" Canoe Adventure is the perfect way to start your day in the Rockies! Paddle with your guide on the peaceful waters of pristine mountain lake. This is a great time of day for animal sightings in this area so keep watch for loons, eagles, osprey and more! All with the backdrop of the majestic Rocky Mountains.
E. Lunch Peak Nic
Cooking in the outdoors is an art. It takes planning, organization, good gear and lightweight ingredients. Peak Nic is a 3.8km intermediate hike up a stunning peak followed by a hands-on back-country cooking lesson, where you will learn how to prepare your own gourmet meal in the outdoors using efficient and environmentally friendly outdoor cooking methods. The best part? You get to eat an amazing meal while enjoying panoramic views.
This evening you will also experience the environs of Jasper. As you travel through Jasper and the surrounding area in a comfortable sightseeing vehicle, not only will you be amazed at some of the beautiful scenery on this journey, you will also learn about the ways the wildlife in the area contribute to the rich diversity of the National Park.
