A coastal British Columbia nature cruise that will take you to remote areas of the Inside Passage.

  • Visit and explore this incredible area with permission from the local Gitga’at, Kitasoo/Xai’Xais, and Haisla First Nations.
  • Sail the Campania Sound and Whale Channel searching for humpback whales.
  • Hike the streams of Princess Royal Island is search of the elusive Kermode Spirit Bear.
  • Search the estuaries of coastal rivers in search of Grizzly Bears feasting on salmon moving upriver to spawn

Canadian Signature Experience

Day 1 Bella Bella Upon arrival in Bella Bella make your way to the Municipal Dock on the Bella Bella waterfront where you will meet the crew. You will leave mid-day to begin your adventure.

Day 2-7 - Depart Bella Bella cruising to Great Bear Rain Forest Over the next 6 days, you will travel to a number of areas around the Central Coast such as Campania Sound and Whale Channel - excellent areas for spotting humpback whales and Steller sea lions. You may go ashore in the Gitga’at (Princess Royal Island) Conservancy. You will cruise over to Bishop Bay to enjoy a relaxing dip in the hot springs and spend a day with a Gitga’at native guide, taking us to his favourite bear viewing area. With patience and some luck you will see black bears and the elusive, white Spirit Bear! You may visit the First Nations village of Klemtu or Hartley Bay to see their ceremonial Big Houses. You will voyage deep into the coastal mountains to explore the Fiordland Conservancy where, beneath towering rock bluffs and waterfalls, you will search remote estuaries to see grizzly bears feeding on spawning salmon.

Day 8 - Arrive Bella Bella You will arrive in Bella Bella late morning. Participants can catch the Pacific Coastal Airlines late afternoon flight back to Vancouver.

Please note: All voyage itineraries are intentionally keep flexible to take advantage of wildlife sightings, weather and tides, and the interests of the group.

  • Return flights between Vancouver & Bella Bella
  • 7 nights on-board vessel
  • Buffet meals from lunch on day 2 to breakfast on day 9
  • Complimentary wine served with dinner
  • Use of facilities on the vessel including kayaks
  • Naturalist and local guides
  • Bear viewing permits, park/sustainability fees & permits

Not Included:

  • Alcohol, except complimentary wine with dinner (guest are welcome to bring their own alcohol or soft drinks)
  • Crew gratuities (recommendation 5-10% of trip cost)
  • Transfer from Airport to sea bus terminal

Note:

  • All guests are required to sign a liability waiver
  • You have to be able to walk on uneven terrain, climb up and down a ladder on both the Roamer and Odyssey, onto the swim grid and in and out of zodiacs, some- times on slippery shorelines.
  • Non-smoking vessels

What to bring:

  • Rain jacket with hat or attached hood, rain pants
  • Rubber boots (very important)
  • Large towel
  • Shoes, soft soled and non-marking for wearing on deck
  • Warm jacket, sweater, hat and gloves/ mittens
  • Long underwear
  • Socks - at least 2 pairs wool
  • Long sleeved shirts / turtlenecks
  • Sandals or water shoes for destinations with hotsprings
  • T-shirts/base layers
  • Long pants and shorts
  • Swimsuit for destinations with hotsprings
  • Personal Items: sunglasses, sun hat, personal medication (clearly labeled), camera, binoculars or spotting scope, small backpack for shore excursions, small flashlight or headlamp, refillable waterbottle

Island Roamer

The Island Roamer is a custom 68-foot 'ketch, launched in 1983. The boat's design, safety and comfort make her perfect for these trips. She features 8 private cabins (double occupancy), 3 heads with hot showers, a large comfortable lounge with an extensive library, and a well-equipped galley. On deck, the large covered seating area provides protection in all types of weather. The Island Roamer is large enough for comfort, privacy and safety, and small enough to create a good rapport among passengers and crew.

A certified Canadian Ministry of Transport passenger vessel, Island Roamer has all of the safety equipment, electronic navigation aids, and features you would expect from a vessel of her standard. All of our cabins have adequate storage space for your bags, personal items and jackets. Coat hangers and life jackets are stowed in every cabin for your convenience. There is electricity in each room, so you can charge your camera batteries and enjoy a reading light in the evening.

Island Solitude

Introducing the newest ship to the Island Roamer and Island Odyssey custom yacht collection. The new flagship is built to be 82’ long and 30% larger than the other members in the fleet by Forbes Cooper, a BC Yachting Legend.

Island Solitude will carry the same number of guests – on average 12. The increase in amenities of this vessel includes 6 guest cabins with two side-by-side berths and private, ensuite bathrooms in each. The on deck wheelhouse is expanded so the entire group can share deliciously prepared meals together while enjoying incredible, 360 degree views! Environmentally, the engines exceed EPA emission standards and the modern hull design was designed for improved sailing performance making it more efficient for travel whether motoring or under sail.
